Dj Narrative Feat Adele & Bobby McFerrin – Moonlit Walk (Rolling in the Deep 2014 Mix)

Dj Narrative Feat Adele & Bobby McFerrin – Moonlit Walk (Rolling in the Deep 2014 Mix)

This track started in the first incarnation of the Reckorder Project 2013 and then was finished at the start of 2014 which marked a move forward in mixdown and arrangement for me. It was inspired by the eu election results of 2014 and the ukip media spin, and uses a bit of the awesome vocals of adele juxta posed with the wisdom of Noam Chompsky, a little acapella of Bobby Mcferrin & Cameron's NHS promises. The track was mastered by Simon Owen at Xenophorm studios, and also appeared as part of my first Loop Lounge collection. Keith Sharman also made an excellent 3D video in 2015, and I'm really looking forward to starting a whole load of new stuff as it was the last thing i made! Outkast – The Whole World (Dj Narrative 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

Outkast – The Whole World (Dj Narrative 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

Last one from the first instance of the Reckorder Project and another one that came together in a day. This time i was focusing more on the break and again trying to keep the session down to 20 hours. Always been a huge fan of the rolling break so thought it would be a good one to practice while living on our boat while she was getting her hull backed in a place with no internet and very few people 🙂 Simon Owen from Xenophorm studios has again done a really nice quick master on it and it was also broken down in my first Loop Lounge Collection as another remix set. I think this was the first time i used the acapella first which i found made writing the track much easier. Although there are plenty of arrangement and mixdown issues - but happy with it for a days work and was making good improvements in my workflow. The remix set is part of a loop lounge collection here - http://www.thisislooplounge.com/collections/featured-dj-tools/products/reckorder-project-beats-breaks-and-bass-by-dj-narrative There's a bit more on the track from the Reckorder Project post - http://www.reckorder.com/dj-narrative-remix-of-outkast/ Download the track...
Taishan – Black Mamba (Dj Narrative CJB 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

Taishan – Black Mamba (Dj Narrative CJB 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

Another one which was more of practice track for my reckorder project site, where i wanted to have a go at a more dubstep sound. It started with some Taiko drums, and ended with some samples from a documentary about how the criminal justice bill and thatcherism affected British culture. I was also experimenting with Massive and Ableton's resonators to make an orrible bass sound. Went a bit far in terms of drowning out other frequencies but Simon Owen has done a little master on the file i sent which makes everything sit much better.  A bit more in the reckorder project post - http://www.reckorder.com/taishan-black-mamba-dj-narrative-thatcher-cjb-remix/ The remix set collection from Loop Lounge - http://www.thisislooplounge.com/collections/featured-dj-tools/products/reckorder-project-beats-breaks-and-bass-by-dj-narrative Download the track...
The Nextmen – Turn It Up A Little (Dj Narrative 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

The Nextmen – Turn It Up A Little (Dj Narrative 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

Another track from the Reckorder Project where i wanted to practice my bass and specifically adding loads more glitchyness and movement in the bass and try out some layering and modulation techniques i was learning. I think i went way too far with it adding loads of layers for the bass and it was subsequently a real pain to mixdown and thus the diy mastering practice became even more difficult. 🙂 Probably should have shelved it but did learn a lot and some of the parts have helped to create another remix set in my first loop lounge collection The Reckorder post is here - http://www.reckorder.com/dj-narrative-remix-of-the-nextmen/  The remix set is part of a loop lounge collection here - http://www.thisislooplounge.com/collections/featured-dj-tools/products/reckorder-project-beats-breaks-and-bass-by-dj-narrative Download the track - http://www.djnarrative.com/the-music-downloads-page-2/...
Ozomatli & Marc Reck – Saturday Night (Dj Narrative 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

Ozomatli & Marc Reck – Saturday Night (Dj Narrative 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

Another from the Reckorder Project but this one had a specific release in mind - the aforementioned Beta Birmingham Compilation which was my first release - which was picked up via the Reckorder Project site - just as it was getting constantly shut down by my web hosting for too much traffic. It was then released as part of the latest Beta Birmingham Champagne Socialism Compilation on December 20th 2013, and it also made up one of my remix sets in my first loop lounge collection in 2014 which then got featured in my first performance video for the label in 2015 - so quite a nice learning curve on the back of all of it  A bit more on the track from Reckorder Project is here - http://www.reckorder.com/dj-narrative-remix-of-ozomatli/ Download the track - http://www.djnarrative.com/the-music-downloads-page-2/ Download the compilation here - https://soundcloud.com/beta-birmingham/sets/beta-004-champagne-socialism Download the Remix set here - http://www.thisislooplounge.com/collections/featured-dj-tools/products/reckorder-project-beats-breaks-and-bass-by-dj-narrative And the video is...
Marc Reck – Superstition (Dj Narrative 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

Marc Reck – Superstition (Dj Narrative 2013 Reckorder Project Remix)

A few days after starting the iko iko track, i had an idea for a bassline for Stevie Wonder’s classic track Superstition. Its one of my favourites ands so i thought it would be a good way of putting some of what ive learnt into practice, and in particular use the live bass and brass instruments as part of the Reckorder Project idea. Wasn't intended for putting up but 6 months later it got picked up by beta birmingham for their Champagne Socialism Release, so had a go at getting it road ready. Quite pleased with how it turned out but then decided to write a new one for the release instead which is the Ozomatli remix 🙂 All the parts are played in live and i had a go at some basic diy mastering. Here's the two Reckorder Project posts on the track - http://www.reckorder.com/a-superstition-remix/ & http://www.reckorder.com/superstition-remix-picked-up-for-a-release/ Download the track...

Dj Narrative – Bruce Lee THX Intro Interview (2012)

Dj Narrative – Bruce Lee THX Intro Interview (2012)

A track to open the prequel album of remixes inspired by the way the interviewer cuts off Bruce when he gets too deep for western television 🙂 The Thx sample mixed with other samples to introduce the conflict element and in light of the gaza news of the time - which inspired the idea to put together the album as free download & any donations via bandcamp would be sent to Save the children gaza fund. The Fugees – Ready Or Not (Dj Narrative 2009 Prequel Remix)

The Fugees – Ready Or Not (Dj Narrative 2009 Prequel Remix)

My first attempt at drum and bass and a track i used to play a lot (zinc remix). I liked it the invigorating message behind the lyrics and also the line you cant run away from all these styles i got as was trying to make a different genre with each track on the album and it fitted nicely into the Bruce Lee - Be formless jeet kun do overall message theme idea.   Dj Narrative Prequel Album of Early Remixes for Gaza Save the Children Fund by Dj Narrative Download album and individual tracks from - http://www.djnarrative.com/the-music-downloads-page-1/...
MIA & Saul Williams – Drop Beats Not Bombs (Dj Narrative 2007 Prequel Mix)

MIA & Saul Williams – Drop Beats Not Bombs (Dj Narrative 2007 Prequel Mix)

My first breaks track from 2007 inspired by the Saul Williams Not in my Name sample and juxta posed with Get this Party started, with some Bill Hicks for good measure. The peter kaye sample at the end was because i made it to play at the reopening of the que club on the main stage as the que club fire alarms would always go off and i thought it a fitting tribute for such a monumentous occasion. Montini Experience – Your House is Mine (Dj Narrative 2007 Prequel Remix)

When i was attending the Que Club every weekend without fail one of the many stand out tracks was My House is your House by Montini Experience (or thats what it said on my mates vinyl copy) so i made a short breaks remix of it in 2009 which got merged with another track in 2011 to add to the 1st Prequel album with the intended openess of Mi Casa Es Su Casa following Bruce's interlude. Bruce Lee – Crossing the Threshold (Dj Narrative Interview Interlude)

Bruce Lee – Crossing the Threshold (Dj Narrative Interview Interlude)

Bruce is back once again as "The Mentor" (with the idea of the prequel album being inspired by Joseph Campbell's the heroes journey structure) to enable our protagonist to cross the threshold and meet the shadow 🙂 Bruce Lee has always been such an inspiration in philosophy & martial arts he was the obvious choice to show the way in this ramshackle narrative 🙂 Artwork image is the talented Boss Logic Download album and individual tracks from - http://www.djnarrative.com/the-music-downloads-page-1/...
Coldcut – Everything is Under Control / The Shepherd (Dj Narrative 2011 Prequel Remix)

Coldcut – Everything is Under Control / The Shepherd (Dj Narrative 2011 Prequel Remix)

An attempt at a heavy breaks track after id just bought Massive. The "i will shepherd you from the darkness" sample with the music added a comment on the illusion of fear the media creates which is much more blatantly expressed with the excellent Coldcut vocal which seem to fit the breaks nicely. General Levy – The Wig (Dj Narrative 2008 Prequel Remix)

Dub Fx – Never Made It (Dj Narrative Remix)

Dub Fx – Never Made It (Dj Narrative Remix)

One of my favourite Dub Fx's tracks and one i wrote on New years day coming back after a party with friends. I'd stopped smoking as was finding i wasnt getting anything done, and found the lyrics to this perfect. Started with the beat and track and acapella added the meaning. Finished in a day though lost the project so only have this early mixdown but fitted well with the overall narrative idea of the Prequel album of remixes so its in at number 5   Download album and individual tracks from...
Method Man & Redman – How High (Dj Narrative Remix)

Method Man & Redman – How High (Dj Narrative Remix)

My first attempt at a glitch hop track at the end of 2011, and the feeling of smoking to get away from the noise. Wanted to get that swing feel and some crunchy bass, nail a decent arrangement and give it enough space on the production. At the end of a late night session i added the How High Acappella, and while it could do with more work tightening up the vocal, it seems to fit really well in the context of the prequel album and be different enough from the original.   Download album and individual tracks from...
Dj Narrative – A Few Remixes from 2013 (Updated June 2014)

Dj Narrative – A Few Remixes from 2013 (Updated June 2014)

6 tracks that i originally intended as practice for my Reckorder project but which i've ended up finishing in June 2014 to create parts, loops and samples for a new remix set project i've been invited onto from loop lounge. The ozomatli remix was released on December 20th 2013 as part of a 12 track EP of remixes and bootlegs from an array of Brum beatsmiths called Champagne Socialism, which is available for free at @beta-birmingham & @beta-test-records. And the rest i've spend a couple of weeks producing inspired by the invitation from loop lounge, all of which makes up my first collection which will be available from Loop Lounge from October 2014. They've turned out ok considering they were intended as practice tracks although i'm really keen to get working on the new stuff when i get back at the end of August 2014. I'm anticipating my future productions will be quite different as i have learnt so much and these all started as practice tracks over a week in september 2013, with the emphasis on learning new plugins and creating a rough track a day. I've replaced the previews i uploaded in December 2013 so as to retain the embeds in the blog posts as there's a bit more info about a few of them on the Reckorder Project > www.reckorder.com/category/reckorder-project/ Download Here...
First Release on Beta Birmingham

First Release on Beta Birmingham

About 12 months ago I started on the Reckorder project. A notebook style ad hoc approach to recording my progress with writing music, which stopped a few months later due to server issues and is now moved over as part of the tutorial site. My second track was a remix of stevie wonders classic track superstition. Intended as a learning track by playing in the parts myself with some new instruments I'd bought and my first attempt at ghetto funk. 6 months later the track got picked by Beta Birmingham label head honcho Harley Davies aka Terrorbyte who was putting together the 4th beta birmingham compilation of remixes. Newsletter readers may remember his wicked remix of dead prez bigger than hip hop on betas 3rd compilation, and listeners of mr elephant radio will have heard  stuff from the first release, both of which are freely available from those links. While working on the track I decided to try and write a few more, and came up with an Ozomatli remix. It seemed potentially more in line with what i knew about Beta so I sent that over, got some nice feedback, and here it is, as part of their 4th compilation - Champagne Socialism There's a host of wicked remixes and reedits on this 12 track compilation and I feel honoured to be included next to some of my favourite local producers, that I've played on my mr elephant radio show - Terrorbyte, Tom Excell, Automaton, Sam Redmore, Mylz Hedz and Redi Knights, Dj Feva, and a host of names that were new but have gone into my ever expanding...
