A recording of my set at Out To Grass for Phil & Lara's magnificent 10 year anniversary weekend party on sat. I only have half of the 3 hour set due to not starting the recorder early enough & it running out of space, but it does now fit on a cd 🙂 This set was the first time i had used my new s8 & it was so good to be back on a proper mixer again after using the s4 for the last 4 years! I had 5000 of my best house, breaks and techno in 5 playlists after a chat about what they wanted but had no idea about what i was going to play - hoping to be able to be led by the crowd. It felt like a real return to that essence of djing for me & made all the difference! Our friends - Dylan and Ruth Berry have an awesome weekend party in the garden In Bristol, called Glastonberry. First time ive been and was honoured to be asked to play. I bought a whole load of new tunes the night before based on a heads up from Nicky Furness about Special Request which led me onto houndstooth label, alongside a load of stuff i bought on Hessle, like Tessella and the like. Kind of sits somewhere in the middle of breaks, techno and jungle, and a sound im really feeling at the mo. To kick off the dancefloor side of the podcast I thought i'd start with my favourite gig of 2011 - 9pm sunday night in the Kamikaze tent at Shambala Festival. I've posted this in different forms before & its been for a little while for dload so i wont waffle about it too much. Like the 1st Coming Home mix this doesnt feature any of the new found turntablism and unlike the Coming Home series - there's no focus whatsoever on narrative, as it was aimed squarely at the festival audience, but im pretty happy with it and seemed like a good one to start with. That said it does get through a fair few of genres, got a really good response so far, and has a few 4 dex & efx moments so hopefully it'll be something you'll enjoy and like to download. It was probably the biggest crowd to date (with whatever the capacity of that huge Kamikaze tent was) and has a load of huuge tunes, samples, acapellas & efx, building up through a host of genres, including breaks, techno, drum & bass & jungle. I was really inspired by the first Northern Exposure Cds from Sasha & Digweed - how they mixed breaks with house and samples. Sounded like nothing else id heard back then. I had a short time buying the more progressive stuff and think i recorded this mix after seeing James Holden in Nottingham. This is probably the only progressive house mix i have as found it could be a little fluffy for my tastes. Some of the darker and more dynamic stuff i still really like though. Download this Mix...

This was getting a little more mixed and was around the time of infamous Church Road parties 🙂 A weekly thing at our house in Moseley which started as a small group of friends and quickly ended up being a house packed with people every week! We had a soundsystem and was so great playing to a house rammed with people every week. Neighbours were extremely patient with us! Was a mix of cdjs and vinyl and my first attempt at mixing up genres - even got a little nod from Hooj artist which i rememeber being most exciting.
