I havent used this for a while, but i think its a great tool for manipulating loops and there's loads of great new features with the more recent updates. Spectrasonics have all the tutorial videos covered on there site - http://www.spectrasonics.net/instruments/stylusrmx_videos.html but i remember trying out the Sage converter which opens up a whole new world of possibilities for your loop library, so heres the notes of what i did.

1. Grab a Loop from your loop library and import into Recycle.

2. Increase the sensitivty to make slices and Export (Leave transmit as one sample off to make slices)

3. Import into Sage Converter, creating suite name

4. Open in Stylus Rmx under user Libraries and Select Slice Menu Mode to play slices with Keys.

(Note that you can do this with any kind of loops)

5. Assign each sound in the loop to its own edit group, by - Create Edit group by playing a note, and then adding and removing slices to the edit group and create other edit groups for each sound

6. Then affect each sound with the efx, envelope and filters, and assign a different output to each one, further affecting and equing each sound as necessary

7. Then with loop set, jam a drum loop with the favourite pieces either over in instead the original loop

8. Name this first midi channel Master Drums, and copy the midi track to each of the stylus channels on the arrangement window, deleting the parts to leave kick notes on kick, snares on snare, etc.  Rename channels as Kicks Midi - Stylus Rmx 1, Snares Midi - Stylus Rmx 2, etc. Colour kicks red, snares orange, etc

9. Write as many loops variations as needed and then export each loop as an audio file, to import back into recycle and save as rex files to import into sage and then back into Stylus rmx as new produced loops.

10. Then add each loop to user favourites and using groove menu mode, play them live on the keyboard to compose the tracks sections. You can further add effects to each loop with the group edit function, and using the cubase vst inserts for each channel/loop. You can also play along with the existing sliced loop  to create the sections. So slices/original loop on Part/Channel 1, and groove/Newly Created Loops/Favourites Suite on Part /Channel 2

This means that all the  drums and triggering can be done using stylus rmx and the keyboard which could be great for live performance. Note that any loop i make can be loaded into rmx, and then using the group edit (for efx, pitching etc) the track can be created very quickly, and also performed live along with omnisphere, other musicians and traktor scratch to drop tunes and samples over. The efx in traktor and the kaoss pad provide a further final live performance level, and the whole thing can be recorded back in for mastering/to drop into dj mixes, etc.

I'd totally forgot about these notes. Will be trying it myself later 🙂

I also had an issue with installing expander packs a while pack and after a lot of trawling the net found this solution in this post - http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/34596-about-s-g-e-xpander-burning-grooves-installation.html

Hope that's useful to someone out there, and if you have any useful tips, links or feedback, please drop us a comment below
