Guitar rig is a quality effects rig for your guitar. I was pretty amazed by the sound when i heard my housemate rocking out with some of the presets, so here's a few notes i wrote a long the way.

Guitar Rig Setup

Drop a version of guitar rig into the effects rack of an audio channel.
Create a midi channel and send the output to the audio channel. This should then come up with guitar rig meaning you can control.
If it doesnt you may have not dropped it on the bottom section (i did this first time round)

Guitar connections

Guitar is plugged into d i box and which goes into soundcard. You can also plug into amp which is miced up into scard. Both seem to sound similar, so i'll stick with direct route as I'm pleased with sound, and its easy to use.

Control with fcb 1010

Open the options in guitar rig, and controller and then midi learn. Again make sure the prefs are set correct. Note that the rig control view shows up in live view e.g 5 & 6 for up and down, and pedal auto assigns. This seems easiest to switch patches, and if you need to change the parameters you can do in the browser screen. Assigning controls is as easy as midi learn.

The fcb and ableton is setup like this.

Bank 1 of fcb1010 controls guitar rig. Guitar rig is on the audio input channel, but there is a midi channel controlling it.
Bank 2 controls the 2 live loopers in ableton. Main button, undo and clear are mapped to pedals 1, 2, 3 and 6, 7, 8.

In Banks 3, 4, and 5, the bottom pedals - 1-5, are mapped to record/launch clips. This enables 15 loops to be recorded in these 5 channels. Obviously only 5 can be playing at once. With the 2 loopers so thats 7 loops all at once.

It also leaves 4 un mapped pads each bank to play with. These could be used for ableton functions and for things like muting efx like the guitar rig or plugins.

To add more i will need to map more of the footpedals. Currently the fcb is going out on midi channel 13. The nocturn track control is on 6, the remote sl and launchpads are going on 1 i think. Hopefully all should work nicely together.

Setting up the fcb 1010

1. Set the fcb to transmit note messages and expression pedal messages on channel 13 in global configuration mode. There was a video which showed this but has now been deleted so til i find another one, this gives an overview of the same things but in words. - http://createdigitalnoise.com/viewtopic.php?t=1782

2. In preset configuration mode i programmed each pedal to send out a different midi note message. Notes are better than program changes. Again its was in the video but the method is on that link above.

3. Then i assigned them via midi learn in ableton to trigger the clips audio and midi (Note that the clips only loop when they are long enough and if loop mode is turned on on the respective sample)

Also remember parts can be triggered and edited at will to create great parts. They can be played together using the Scene trigger play buttons on the right in the studio and obviously live

· Note : if controllers are sending out different midi messages (like after the fcb 1010 was programmed) then no problems should occur. If different devices are sending midi messages on seperate channels, (like i programmed the fcb programmed to send on channel 13, then devices wont clash)

There's a few more tips on the fcb 1010 page and here are a couple more posts i found useful when getting it to work with guitar rig.
